UK - A BLIND Muslim cleric was murdered moments after morning prayers yesterday. Sheik Maymoun Zarzour, 39, was killed after an unknown man walked up to him and asked to talk, witnesses said. He died at the scene and the man was arrested on suspicion of murder. It is not being treated as a race or hate crime by police. One worshipper, who asked to be named only as Omar, said the suspected killer was “not a usual member of the congregation”. He added: “I had never seen him before. I’m not sure how he was killed... Another worshipper added: “There were rumours the man was mentally ill. Sheik Zarzour was a member of Lebanon’s Sunni Al-Jamaa al-Islamiya group, a branch of the Muslim Brotherhood and came to the UK in 2008 seeking asylum. He had been preaching at the , North London, close to the Muslim Welfare House in Finsbury Park mosque where hook-handed hate cleric Abu Hamza was once based.
